What Is Uplifting?
New to Uplifting? Here's a quick dive into the sound and the new release by Internomad.
This style of electronic music, often referred to as Uplifting, emerged around 25-30 years ago and should not be confused with the Euphoric or Uplifting Trance popular in Europe. Rooted in the GOA tradition, Uplifting evolved by introducing brighter melodies and a strong emotional drive — while keeping the high-energy pulse of Psy-Trance.
It shares deep ties with Israel’s Nitzhonot scene from the early 2000s, but the Greek interpretation, which this album represents, has its own distinct flavor. The melodies tend to avoid Arabic scales, leaning instead into more Western or Hellenic musical influences, and the kick drums are punchier and more “laser-like” in character.
"Ascend" is a special release. It’s a conceptual detour from my usual Melodic Full On style — crafted as a tribute to a sound that once stirred powerful emotions and lit up dancefloors, festival grounds and major clubs across Greece. A genre that moved people — not just rhythmically, but emotionally — with its bright melodies and unstoppable energy.
